Advanced Diver Development

Option 1 - Advanced Adventure Diver

You’ve taken your open water scuba diver course and now you are ready to expand your knowledge but you would like to see what is out there first. The SDI Advanced Adventure Diver course will give you an overview of five (5) selected SDI specialties. Two of the specialties are SDI Deep Diver and Navigations Diver, which are the foundation of continuing diver education. The remaining specialties include

• Advanced Buoyancy Control
• Altitude, Boat
• Computer Nitrox
• Drift
• Marine Ecosystem Awareness
• Many More!

This course is intended to introduce you to each of the five (5) specialties and not complete comprehension of the chosen specialty. One (1) dive from each of the chosen specialties may apply towards a complete specialty certification.

Equipment Requirements for Course
In addition to scuba gear, students will require the following items for the duration of the course:
(some items may not be available for rent)

• Primary dive light
• Backup dive light
• Dive knife
• Dive slate
• Compass

Cost $250 (+ books and GST)

Option 2 - Truly Advanced Diver

The SDI Advanced Diver Development Program was created to make truly “Advanced Divers”. Under the old way of training a student could take an Advanced Course right after Open Water course and only have a total of nine dives, all under the supervision of an instructor. The SDI-Advanced Diver Development Program requires new Open Water divers to take four (4) SDI specialty courses, or equivalent, and have a total of twenty five (25) logged dives. SDI feels a diver will truly be “Advanced” after this is accomplished.
Any of the speciality courses that require dives may be credited towards the Advanced Diver certification.

To help you become a truly Advanced diver in the cold waters that we normally dive here in Nanaimo, we have put together what call the "Truly Advanced Diver Package."

This package is designed to truly make you an advanced diver in our waters. You don’t just get an overview of different specialties – you earn the full specialty certification and can be assured of having the knowledge and skill needed to do the dives safely.

This package includes:

• 7 dives
  •1 skills dive to review open water skills, refine buoyancy and balance your trim
  •2 Deep dives
  •2 Navigation dives
  •2 Night dives
• In addition, you will learn to deploy a surface marker buoy and calculate your SAC rate
• Manuals for Deep, Night, and Navigation specialties
• Certification cards for Deep, Night, and Navigation specialties
• Certification as Advanced Diver (once you have reached 25 logged dives)
