Wetsuits for warmth, comfort, and performance

A wetsuit is your primary source of thermal protection when diving or snorkeling. The right wetsuit keeps you warm, comfortable, and able to enjoy longer dives, whether you’re exploring local waters or traveling to warmer destinations. Fit, thickness, and material all play a major role in how well a wetsuit performs.

At Nanaimo Dive Outfitters, we carry wetsuits designed for a wide range of conditions, from cold coastal dives to tropical travel.

Types of wetsuits

Wetsuits come in several styles, each suited to different water temperatures and activities.

Full wetsuits
Full-length suits provide the most warmth and protection, covering the arms and legs. These are the most common choice for scuba diving and colder water conditions.

Shorty wetsuits
Short-sleeve and short-leg wetsuits offer lighter insulation and increased mobility. They are popular for snorkeling, pool training, and warm-water diving.

Two-piece systems
Some divers prefer layering a jacket over a full suit for extra warmth and flexibility, especially when water temperatures vary between dives.

Wetsuit thickness explained

Thickness is measured in millimeters and determines how much insulation the suit provides.

    • 3 mm suits are ideal for warm-water diving and snorkeling.
    • 5 mm suits offer moderate warmth and are commonly used in temperate conditions.
    • 7 mm suits are designed for colder water and extended dive times.

We can help you choose the right thickness based on your dive location, season, and personal cold tolerance.

BARE wetsuits

BARE is known for high-quality construction, excellent fit, and thoughtful thermal design. We carry several BARE models to match different diving needs.

BARE 3 mm and 5 mm suits
Great options for travel and warmer conditions, offering flexibility and comfort without sacrificing durability.

BARE 7 mm wetsuits
Built for colder water, these suits provide increased insulation and are often paired with hoods, gloves, and boots for added warmth.

BARE Evoke and Reactive series
These models use advanced materials and ergonomic patterning to improve warmth, reduce water movement, and enhance comfort during longer dives.

Oceaner wetsuits

Oceaner wetsuits offer reliable performance and value, making them a solid choice for new divers, training, and recreational use. They provide good insulation, comfortable fits, and durability suited to frequent diving.

Finding the right fit

A wetsuit should feel snug without restricting movement or breathing. Gaps allow water to flush through, reducing warmth. Our staff can help you find the right size and style so your suit works with you, not against you.

Whether you’re gearing up for your first dive, upgrading your exposure protection, or planning a warm-water trip, we’re happy to help you choose a wetsuit that matches your diving goals and keeps you comfortable in the water.
