Nitrox Diver Course FAQ
What is the TDI Nitrox Diver course?
It’s an entry-level enriched air course that teaches you how to safely use nitrox mixtures from 22% to 40% oxygen to extend your no-decompression limits.
Do I need to be certified before taking the Nitrox course?
Yes. You must be an Open Water Diver or currently completing your Open Water training.
Do I have to do any ocean dives?
No. The TDI Nitrox Diver course is primarily academic and hands-on. Nitrox diving can be added to future ocean dives if you want practical experience.
What is enriched air nitrox?
It’s a breathing gas with a higher percentage of oxygen than regular air. Using nitrox reduces nitrogen uptake, which can extend allowable bottom time.
What nitrox percentages does the course cover?
You’ll learn to use and analyze mixtures from 22% to 40% oxygen.
Will nitrox let me dive deeper?
No. Nitrox has depth limits because of oxygen toxicity. You’ll learn how to calculate your maximum operating depth (MOD) for each mix.
Do I need special gear for nitrox?
Most modern dive gear is nitrox-compatible. You’ll learn which equipment considerations apply to enriched air diving.
Can I combine this course with other training?
Yes. Many divers pair it with their Advanced, Deep, or Wreck courses, or use nitrox on local dive charters.
What’s the next step after Nitrox Diver?
You can continue into TDI Advanced Nitrox, Decompression Procedures, or Technical Foundations courses.
How long does the course take?
Most students complete the eLearning and in-person training in one evening or a short session at the shop.
